Margaret C. Wheeler has spent over 40 years working in fiber arts related
fields. Upon moving to Leavenworth she retired from Theatre and costume
designing. This gave her time to focus on a more personal expression
of her artistry. She has taken countless workshops and classes on weaving,
design and color over the years. This artistic journey has led to her
to work in mixed media abstracts containing fragments of her weavings
or fiber. Embroidery is also a love as well as beading, knitting & crochet.
In 2004, she joined with four other women in forming a fiber arts support
group named Winding Rivulets. Instead of costuming people she is now
designing & costuming “Spirit Dolls”. These dolls represent
a great love of fabric and costume design and are Margaret’s own
vision, not representing any culture. Doing fabric bowls is just another
way to use the beautiful fabrics that she has accumulated over the years
and to use the handwoven fabric pieces with a new purpose. The bowls
include wire and beads to complete her vision.
Most recently, Margaret has found working in silk fusion to be a wonderful
form of expression. She also will design wearable art for commissions.
She has been a member of the Seattle Weavers Guild since 1984 and the
Artist Guild of Leavenworth since 1999. Her studio is conveniently located
right next to her house. She has lived in the Leavenworth area for 13
years.
