Educated as a fine artist and printmaker,
Gretchen Rohde graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic
Design from the University of Washington in 1975. Since then she has
worked with a wide variety of clients, applying her skills as a designer,
art director, illustrator and fine artist.
After moving from Seattle to Lake Wenatchee in 1995 with her architect
husband, her art began to reflect her love of and respect for the natural
world.
An accomplished printmaker, Gretchen also paints in watercolor, acrylic,
and oils. The subject matter of her paintings, drawings, and prints often
document flora and fauna seen on hikes into the Wenatchee River watershed.
The donkey portraits shown on this site are of "Zane" and "Blue
Jean", the much-loved pets of a neighbor. Gretchen's work can be seen
at the Miller Fine Arts Gallery in Leavenworth, and viewed on her web site, www.thedesignranch.com.
